Snack Du Jour: goop’s Chai Gingerbread Detox Shake (gf, veg)

A genius post-Thanksgiving damage control shake in a facepalm seasonal flavor combo.

Adapted from goop, herself.

CHAI GINGERBREAD DETOX SHAKE

Ingredients:chai 1

  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tbsp almond butter
  • 1-2 small scoops vanilla whey protein, optional
  • 2 cups hot, brewed chai rooibos tea OR 1 cup brewed tea if not using protein
  • 1/2 cup almond milk if not using protein

Mix dry ingredients in a blender bottle. Shake them up. Add the hot tea and almond butter and shake again. Add almond milk, if using, and shake again. Et voilà. Since I’m so proud of my rosemary, which survived an entire season in my care, please enjoy this gratuitous photo:

    • To me, “detox”= stimulated digestion. Perhaps the heat from the tea and spices would help get things moving after a big holiday meal. Detox is also a buzzword that I’m using to drive traffic to my blog. 😉 Happy black Friday to you, too! I scored some Goose Island BCS. My haul is complete. Hello to the SOSC.

      • I’ve traced your detox recipe back to its shadowy origins and am shocked (SHOCKED) to find that goop is Gwyneth Paltrow and (the SOSC informs me) that she is now the Martha Stewart of our age. Goop credits her “winter detoxing” recipe to “Dr. Junger of Clean” .
Dr. Junger is a cardiologist and snake oil salesman. His website states “The Clean Cleanse is the most endorsed, supported and effective cleanse in the world. It was designed by cardiologist and cleanse specialist Alejandro Junger M.D. to be easy to follow and safe to conduct.”
I still have no idea what this stuff is detoxing us from or why we need a cleanse, let alone a clean cleanse. Isn’t the GI tract full of poop and bacteria naturally?
